Privacy policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

In short: MacSweep works on your Mac. Your files stay there. We only send what's needed to activate your license, check for updates and, if you use Ask MacSweep, answer your questions. We never send the contents of your files, and we don't sell data.

Who we are

“MacSweep”, “we” and “our” refer to MacSweep, the macOS app, and the services at macsweep.co. For any privacy matter, email soporte@macsweep.co.

What stays on your Mac

Scans, the Space Lens map, the cleanup History, your exclusions and your preferences are computed and stored on your Mac (in ~/Library/Application Support/MacSweep). We don't receive them.

Data that is sent, and why

License (MacSweep Pro)

When you activate, renew or deactivate your license, the app sends our license server (licensing.macsweep.co, hosted in Germany):

  • Your license key.
  • An anonymous identifier for your Mac: a code derived from the hardware identifier that doesn't reveal that identifier or the serial number.
  • Your Mac's name (for example, “Ana's MacBook”), so you can recognize it when you switch Macs.

We use this to check that the license is valid and active on a single Mac. The server may also record each request's IP address for security.

Ask MacSweep (optional, Pro)

Only when you type a question in Ask MacSweep, the app sends our AI service (ai.macsweep.co, hosted in the United States):

  • Your question and the current conversation.
  • What MacSweep finds to answer it: names, sizes and dates of files and folders, app names, and your Mac's status (disk space, memory, battery). Your user name is replaced with “~” in paths.
  • Your license key and your Mac's anonymous identifier, to check your license and monthly allowance.

The contents of your files are never sent: no documents, photos or passwords.

Our service forwards the conversation to Anthropic, whose Claude model generates the answer. Anthropic processes this data as our provider, under its commercial terms. Our service doesn't store your conversations: it only counts how many questions you asked this month and keeps technical records without content (date, result and amount of text processed). In the app, the conversation only exists while you have it open.

You can turn Ask MacSweep off in Settings; when it's off, nothing is sent.

Updates

  • MacSweep's own: the app checks downloads.macsweep.co for a new version.
  • Your other apps: when you check for updates, MacSweep queries each installed app's update server, Apple's public lookup service for App Store apps (with each app's identifier) and Homebrew's public indexes. Those servers receive ordinary internet requests, as from any browser.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), our authorized reseller, which sells you the license and handles billing, taxes and invoices. Paddle processes your payment data under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address, country and order details from Paddle to deliver your license and support you.

Support

If you email us, we keep your messages and address to answer you and resolve your case.

This website

macsweep.co uses no cookies, analytics, trackers or third-party content. Our web server keeps no visitor logs.

Who we share data with

Only the providers needed to run the service: Paddle (payments), Anthropic (Ask MacSweep answers), Hetzner (license server, Germany) and Oracle Cloud (website and AI service, United States). We don't sell or rent personal data, or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • License data: while the license exists, then only as long as the law requires.
  • Ask MacSweep counters: the current month and the previous one.
  • Server technical logs: rotated and deleted automatically; they never contain your conversations.
  • Support emails: up to two years after your last message.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, object to its use, and withdraw your consent at any time. We comply with Colombia's data protection law (Ley 1581 of 2012) and, if you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR. Email soporte@macsweep.co and we'll reply within 15 business days. You can also contact your country's data protection authority.

Children

MacSweep isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If the change is significant, we'll announce it in the app or on this site.
